Oxnard to Santa Monica, 51 miles. The family of Ventura City Fire Dept. John Duff was presented a Jersey Plaque dedicating the 2016 ride to John Duff, At Oxnard Fire Station 6. 2016 Firefighter Cancer Awareness Ride comes to a successful end at the Santa Monica pier (LA County Lifeguard Headquarters). Family, Media (ABC & NBC), Command staff from LA Co FD, SMFD, Union reps from San Francisco Fire, LA City Fire were all in attendance. A Heartfelt Thanks from all of us at Fire Velo goes out to the Santa Monica Fire Dept., Santa Monica P.D., and LA County Fire Dept. BN5/LA County Lifeguards for helping with traffic, logistics, which made the final leg of our ride a huge success!
Day 5 - Morro Bay to Lompoc went smooth with great weather. Riders arriving as early as 2PM completing 72 miles. We were treated by the Lompoc Fire Dept. to a delicious spaghetti dinner, and big thank you for the hospitality Lompoc Fire has shown annually to our riders and support staff.
Day 6 - Lompoc to Oxnard, 92 miles of difficult cold weather riding out of Lompoc, followed by comfortable southern California sunshine once in Santa Barbara. Santa Barbara City Fire Local 525 treated riders and support staff to an awsome lunch at the "East Beach Grill" (just south of the Santa Barbara Pier). Santa Barbara City Fire Local 525 takes Brotherhood/Sisterhood to a higher level! Thank You 525!!!
